Another hair cut

During Jack's last haircut he had a meltdown and a temper tantrum and basically screamed and sobbed for 15 minutes while a nice woman attempted to cut his hair.  You can see why I wasn't in a hurry to do it again.  But it just had gotten so long that I had to brave it again today.  By some miracle, it went really well!

A few months ago he refused to sit in the neat little car seats by himself and I had to hold him (restrain) him in my lap.  But today he pointed to the yellow taxi and hopped right in.  In order to smooth things over, I will admit that I gave him my phone to play with.  And that totally entertained him as the hairdresser slowly and calmly combed and trimmed his hair.  Eventually he even let me take the phone away so I could snap some pictures.

And at the end he left with an adorable little boy haircut and a fun yellow balloon.  Woohoo!  Now he's really ready for his upcoming 2nd birthday.

Haircut number...4? 5?

I've lost track of how many haircuts Jack has gotten but he got another one yesterday. Look at that smile. You would think that the whole experience was smooth sailing but YOU'D BE WRONG. This was the worst haircut experience and, I'd wager, the worst experience, period, that we've ever had. I had to sit him on my lap and hold down his arms like a straightjacket while he screamed and cried and turned red and sweated. Tears running down his cheeks, screaming "no" and "mommy". I think the entire salon was totally freaked out. Poor kid. But, at the same time, come on! Jack, why do you have to be so difficult?! The hair stylist thought that we should forget the final touches and the razor on his neck and just end the haircut slightly prematurely.

He was still upset when I let him down off the chair but his complimentary balloon made him stop crying. Didn't make him smile, but... at least he wasn't crying?

I figured the only thing that might cheer him up was a trip to the park. Guess what? It worked!

2nd Haircut: Mission Accomplished

Well, see those long locks? Those curls in back? They are gone. At first I was sad. But over the past two days his new haircut has really grown on me. He certainly enjoyed the little police car chair. And, though this picture may say otherwise, he was thrilled to get a balloon at the end.

He looks older to me and just pretty different with short hair. I may miss the longer locks but I know it'll grow back very quickly. And now his Pop-Pop won't say he looks like a hippie. ;-)

Curly locks

My little boy has quite a head of hair. The moms in our playgroup tease me that they are all jealous that their daughters don't have as much hair as Jack. And, it's true, he has three times as much hair as most of the kids. Now that it's gotten long though, it's started to curl. So cute!

Of course, I think he desperately needs a haircut. Though, if you go by LA playground standards, his hair isn't even close to long. There are so many boys running around with really long hair. I know this because I have many times mistaken a boy for a girl at the park. Nonetheless, now that he's healthy, hopefully we can get a haircut soon. In the meantime, I'll take his cute smiles and curly locks!

Who's a big boy now?!

Hi there. Notice anything different? That's right. Jack got his first haircut! Man, what a big boy he is now. He looks so cute. We decided to go to a special kids hair salon for his first haircut because I didn't think he'd sit still for very long and I thought the professionals could handle him. I was right. They were used to it and handled his squirmy-ness just fine.

The nice lady threw a hair apron on him and I tried to distract him with a book while she wet his hair.

As the haircut took shape, I saw just how adorable he looked. And it aged him like a whole year!

Once the stylist was done, she indulged the silly new parents and daddy with a camera by doing some funny hairstyles.

When it was all done they gave us a cute little certificate to commemorate his first haircut with a Polaroid pic and a lock of hair.

When we got home I was pretty pleased. He is one handsome dude.
