NFL Kickoff

It is officially Jack's first football season and the first Sunday of the season did not go by unnoticed in this household. The little guy got dressed in his best Steelers onesie (oops, they lost...next week we'll go Eagles) and hung out on the couch with the boys. He really seems entranced by both the players on the screen and the rabid fans on the couch. He couldn't decide which was more interesting.

I'm pretty sure his daddy was happy to have a new addition to the Sunday morning gang.

Today Jack is...29 weeks old.

Another exciting week in our household. Ha! Just kidding. We did our usual nap, eat, play at home routine. But it's exciting for me because Jack seems to be more animated every week. He's starting to be able to "play" and it's adorable. This week he discovered his soccer ball and I have to say, it's been awesome playing with him and the ball. He is so into it. I help him kick it and he giggles in delight. And he'll lay on the floor and tackle it as I roll it to him over and over again.

Yesterday it really struck me, as he was lying there on the rug, just how small he still is. He looks minuscule on the rug.

The adventures in eating continue. He is still a great lover of rice cereal and oatmeal. He will tolerate fruits. But you try to give the little guy vegetables and he cries his head off. Especially green vegetables. The only way I can get him to eat them is to sneak them in with the cereal. Though he often times still notices and gives me the evil eye like "listen, lady, I know what you're doing." He still has zero interest in solid finger foods though I try to offer him something every day. Jack's tried to grab the spoon from me on a couple of occasions with varying success. He knows to put it to his mouth which is great but unfortunately his hand-eye coordination isn't quite mature yet. That means that he usually pokes himself in the eye or smears the food all over his forehead.

He has gotten pretty good at sitting and it's just crazy that this is my little baby. He looks like such a big boy when he sits up.

John's mom arrived in town a few days ago which means a week of help with the little guy. Maybe even a date or two for Jack's mom and dad? Can't wait. In the mean time, she's already taken over some of the nap duties.

Though he still likes to fall asleep on my lap and I don't mind one single bit. I mean, look at that little face. Ridiculous.

And now, more pics from the week!

I like to call this "tan lines".

He is definitely more interested in his toys these days

Funniest face ever.

His Father's Son

This weekend was all about daddy and son time. The husband had his annual fantasy football draft and he was excited that Jack could be his team's co-manager. He even had special apparel for the big day. Might not make sense to most people, but "krautrock" means a lot to John and it's part of his team name.

To kick the weekend off, we were lucky enough to have a special guest fly in just for the draft. Our friend Ken was here for the weekend from Austin and Jack took quite a liking to him.

It might be because Ken has his own one year-old son at home, but the little guy felt pretty comfortable with him. Or maybe he was pretty stoked about the gift that he brought. Another special shirt to wear on the big day with his daddy's team logo.

Here's Jack checking out the 10 strange people on his couch yelling about football. As well as the giant draft board in the background.

Here's a couple of blurry photos of the boys making one of their picks.

And here are the boys and Ken fooling around and having fun.

Jack did really great even though it was a long day with lots of strangers invading his house. He was appropriately adorable and I can't wait to see him watch football this season with his dad. And, by the looks of it, he's out to win his fantasy league.

Division 1 scholarship, here we come!

When Jack gets ready to go to college with the Class of 2033 (!!), John and I figure that any university is going to cost about $100k a year. Therefore, the only way he's going is on a sports scholarship. My argument is to go for a big fish in a little pond type of sport...diving, curling, bowling, golf, etc. But of course my husband has other ideas. Big ideas. Like Division 1 basketball. March Madness on national television. Well, not really, but it's fun to dream. And he's already got his signature tongue move down.

#1 Draft Pick

Yesterday was the NBA draft which is always a big day for John. This year John was happy to have his son participate in the excitement. And I think the little guy truly enjoyed it.
