Here are my favorite Christmas songs. Of course what matters who which version of the song you like best since there are only so many Christmas songs. The one song that didn't make it was "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" which I love but it is just so damn sad. But that would be my number 6.
My Top 5 Christmas Songs:
5. Sleigh Ride - Harry Connick Jr.
4. Santa Claus is Comin' To Town - Bruce Springsteen
3. The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
2. White Christmas - Bing Crosby
1. All I Want For Christmas is You - Mariah Carey
I defy you not to smile and bop along when this song comes on!
5. Mele Kalikimaka - Bing Crosby. I just remember this being on in my parent's old house during my childhood.
ReplyDelete4. Baby, It's Cold Outside - Dean Martin. I realize this isn't really a Christmas song, and that the lyrics are a little problematic, but I still love it.
3. Kentucky Homemade Christmas - Kenny Rogers. Apparently, I have a thing for country Christmas songs. Who knew?
2. O Tannenbaum - Nat King Cole. I love when he busts out the German.
1. O Holy Night - Nat King Cole. Gives me chills every time.
Wow.
ReplyDeleteCara, I can only assume your "wow" means that you agree with all my choices. ;)
ReplyDeletei just outed myself to kevin the other day that i obviously like the mariah carey song - how can you not??
ReplyDeletedoing a top five is hard. obviously i love all the classics, but it turns out that some of my personal favorites are a bit more random.
5. christmas is coming - vince guaraldi trio
4. comfort and joy - simon and garfunkel
3. the friendly beasts - sufjan stevens
2. o holy night - nat king cole
1. have yourself a merry little christmas - frank sinatra
i know it's sad, but it's still my all-time favorite.
5. Sleigh Ride - Harry Connick Jr. (I'm totally with you on this one)
ReplyDelete4. I Saw Three Ships - Sufjan Stevens
3. Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano (this, more than anything, reminds me of driving out to Lemon Grove for Christmas Eve at my grandparents' house every year)
2. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing - no one in particular. This was one of the first songs that Simon learned to sing. Adorable. And reminded me of learning it for Christmas pageants back in elementary school.
1. Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby and David Bowie. I am totally obsessed with this song.
AND the bing crosby/david bowie "little drummer boy" version really nails the awkward conversations that are such a big part of any holiday season. and becca, lisa kept "baby it's cold outside" out of her top 5 specifically for the implied date rape.
ReplyDeletehusband list (and hoping jack takes more after his dad, cause guess what? i don't like that mariah carey song.):
5 (tie). dolly parton-"hard candy christmas" and mel torme-"the christmas song"
4. low-"just like christmas"
3. rahsaan roland kirk-"we free kings"
2. the kinks-"father christmas"
1. james brown-"sweet little baby boy" (for jack. and obviously also for jesus. but pre-xmas 2010, i would have had the kinks in the top spot.)
