Five for Friday: Things I'm Scared of

My top 5 things that scare me:

5. Spiders in my house
Yes, I squeal like a little girl when I see spiders in the house. I didn't even bother listing every other creepy crawly thing but, suffice it to say, I hate all of them.

4. Old age
It's not so much the "old" part but the fact that with age often come physical setbacks, cancer, etc. If I think about it enough, it'll make me sad.

3. Horror movies
Seems obvious but clearly a ton of people love horror movies. Not me. Scares the crap out of me. Luckily my husband is scared to death of horror movies too so we avoid them like the plague.

2. Pretty much everything to do with Jack and his future
Maybe this doesn't make sense the way I wrote it. I just mean that I am constantly scared about his future...his health, his mental development, his education, bullies at school, friendships, etc. Why don't they tell you that motherhood can be so full of fear and worries?

1. The writing and spelling skills of the current crop of teenagers.
Have you seen this on facebook or twitter or in the comments section on websites? Terrible grammar, incorrect spellings (that is if they bothered to actually try to spell out a word), ridiculous internet acronyms...it's enough to make me weep for the future.

What are your top 5?

  1. I LOVE your list, Lisa, although I have to admit that I swung violently between laughing hysterically at your #1 and wanting to weep, which is pretty much the reaction I had to most of my students' first year comp essays last year....

  2. Ok, so I've thought about this and have decided to leave off the totally grave and serious things (like "something happening to Dan") because they were too depressing to think about.

    5. Cockroaches. Mice are bad, but at least they look cute. Cockroaches are just awful. And don't even get me started on centipedes.
    4. Earthquakes. I thought I'd moved away from them by leaving California, but at this point I've experienced them in both Wisconsin and DC, which seems crazy to me.
    3. There is a particular rest stop in the middle of Kansas that scares the hell out of me.
    2. Little kids in horror films. Those twins in The Shining, in particular.
    1. The cost of college tuition. And health care.

Ten years ago, #1 might have been Garrison Keillor's voice, but I've gotten used to it at this point.

  3. Goodmorning Lisa :) I opened up your post and there it was...that big ugly spider, one of my biggest fears!!! Urck!!!
I'm going to say heights, scorpians (they're just awful looking), horror flicks, spiders and teenagers in general :)
I love what your friend wrote about the creepy rest stop in Kansas, I'm picturing it right now lol (oops, can I use that?) Hehehe

  4. I guess it's a good thing I've never been to Kansas.
