Day at the Beach

While some parts of the country are bundling up and enjoying hot pumpkin spice lattes, our temperatures reached 95 degrees this weekend. Seemed like a good time to head to the beach so we packed up the car and headed to Malibu. Jack, just like his daddy, LOVES the beach. I could do without the sand and beating sun and freezing water but it's so fun to see Jack enjoying himself so much. His favorite thing ever is to jump the waves with his daddy while he counts them. Last beach trip he counted 325 waves. Today? 355. "A new record!" he proudly exclaimed.

Jack was so cute that I even let him drag my big pregnant butt into the cold waves too.

Love my cute, handsome boys!  (And look at that kid's tan!)

And a few more of me at 34 weeks pregnant and my very cute baby boy (#1)!!

Another Beach Post

This Memorial Day we decided to head to Malibu to have some beach fun. Since our last beach visit for Aunt Leslie's birthday, Jack had been begging for more "waves and sand!" So off we went and tried not to think of how crowded it would be. Malibu was actually pretty sunny and the crowds weren't too bad.

Jack was a little tentative at first and needed to check out the huge waves with his daddy.

After that he seemed ready to go.

So, making sure that he was safe in his daddy's arms, he charged into the waves!

We had a great day there and Jack ended up spending four hours playing in the water and on the sand.  I'm afraid I have a beach bum in the making.  And a daddy's boy of course.  :)

A Day at the Beach (and Happy Birthday Aunt Leslie!)

This past Tuesday we met Aunt Leslie down at Venice Beach to celebrate her birthday. Jack LOVES the beach and hasn't been since last summer so he was pretty excited to go see the "waves and sand". I don't personally love the beach but his sheer joy at having the waves hit his legs was enough to make me have a good time. He was a little tentative at first, trying to figure out just how brave he could be.

But soon he went charging down towards the waves (and I mean CHARGING at full speed), ready to get wet.

He was really cute.  Brave, but not too crazy.  It was cold and the waves were big so he would only go up to about his knees.  After a few big waves knocked him over, he insisted upon holding my hand every time a wave was coming.  It was pretty adorable.

Jack was, of course, happy to see his Aunt Leslie and wish her a happy birthday.

And I had a great time with my boy!

First trip to the beach

Last weekend John and I decided that our first family trip to the beach was long overdue.  So we packed up the little boy and headed to Paradise Cove in Malibu.  We got there early so the clouds hadn't burned off yet but, on the other hand, it was nice that it wasn't crowded. At first the little guy was pretty tentative. Maybe even scared. That pic above is when we first got there. It was high tide and the waves were breaking right on the shore. We had forgotten how loud waves are but Jack's reaction quickly reminded us that it was a little intimidating.

For the first few minutes he clung to his daddy and me. We just sort of tried to get him used to it.

I took over holding duties and John made his way into the waves, showing Jack how fun it was. Slowly we crept closer and closer to the water. I showed him how I could get my feet wet, crouched down with him and let him get his feet wet. And, eventually, he took a turn and decided that the beach was AWESOME. He charged in again and again with his daddy.

John let him get wet but not go all the way under (the water was freezing!).

He loved getting swung around in the waves and squealed with delight.

And when we were tired of playing in the water, he played in the sand for a long time. Just playing with his shovel and bucket. He was enthralled.

It was such a great day and I am so happy that Jack seemed to enjoy it so much. It was so neat to see him go from scared to timid to tentative to mesmerized to joyous. Definitely fun to experience it through his eyes. I took so many pictures so here are just a few more. Enjoy!
