Week in Review - 3/31/12

Jack kept practicing walking this week and he's gotten quite good. A little too good because now he's trying to walk too fast and he's falling a lot just because he's picking up too much speed. A few days ago he fell and hit his forehead on the toilet, of all things. Later that day a big bump with a bruise appeared but, luckily, his bangs covered it up. Then the next day we were at the park and he was running around and he fell and hit his cheek on the edge of the play equipment. Immediately his cheek turned red and swelled up and he got a bruise on his cheekbone. Geez. So now he just looks like a prize fighter. It doesn't photograph very well but here's one where you can sort of make out his injury.

I am horrified of course but John thinks our little bruiser is adorable. I imagine he'll have many more injuries in his future.

This past week Jack showed his March Madness basketball spirit by sporting an awesome Syracuse shirt.

Sadly, John's alma mater lost, but the boys were glued to the game the entire time.

The other big news this week is that we turned his car seat around. Now he faces forward and he loves it! I just had to do it because I was tired of not being able to see him when I'm driving. I had no idea if he was asleep, if he was eating something, or what he was doing. Now I can see him and it makes me feel much better. And he's happier.

Okay, gotta run because we're out of town again this weekend. But here are more pics from the week!

Soothing Sounds

As is well documented on this blog, Jack has never loved car rides. Thank goodness he's past the "screaming until he chokes" phase that lasted 3 1/2 months. And he's also past general crying every time we get in the car. Now we're in a pretty good place. He stares out the window, he looks at himself in the mirror, he plays with the seat straps, he babbles away...generally he's pretty good. Until he's not of course. But I've found something that soothes him - classical music. We listen to the local classical music station and it's so damn relaxing. For Jack and for me. And it's listener-sponsored which means no commercials. Jack just focuses intently on the music. During particularly rousing pieces with horns, etc. he even "sings" along. Of course, the classical music doesn't trump my singing of camp songs, but it's a good backup.

Today Jack is...8 weeks old.

Eight weeks old today which apparently isn't two months old. That won't come until the 19th. I may have to reconsider these birthday posts...we'll see. But at eight weeks Jack is getting cuter every day. Good thing because he is also getting more difficult in some ways. He hates, and I mean HATES, going on car rides. With very few exceptions, he'll scream bloody murder and sweat through his clothes and start to choke. It's not the most fun. He also still won't allow me to sit still. If he's in my arms and awake, he's got to be bouncing on a ball, walking around, or doing step aerobics outside (that's John's job mostly).

But, on the plus side, he is getting more adorable every day. His face is so expressive and sometimes he has such laughing and smiling fits. He is becoming more interested in toys and their sounds, though he still won't hold them or grab them.

He's still enthralled by mirrors and is warming up to the bath with each consecutive day. Or I assume he's warming up to it because now he's relaxed enough to pee in the bath most nights. Hey, as long as I don't get hit with it.

And now, more pictures from this week!
