The state of our household, part 2

Well, I didn't mean to make this a two-parter but apparently we need an update.  See that utterly defeated boy right there?  Well, he's sick.  And miserable.  Has been for 4 days.  Poor little Jack has a recurring fever, cold, and a terrible hacking cough that keeps him up all night.  I guess if there's an upside, it's that John and I are getting used to getting up every 90 minutes.  Fun times!  I am just hoping that he's 100% healthy by the time we introduce a newborn with zero immunity to the household.  These toddlers seem to get sick every two months or so so I know the healthy phase won't last long, but hopefully we hit a good window.

Jack sort of looks like I feel in that picture.  In case I haven't mentioned it, MAN, this pregnancy is so much harder than my first.  I can only think it's because I'm older and more out of shape.  But at the end of my first pregnancy, I was still pretty active and not that uncomfortable.  When I was overdue with Jack, I walked 5 miles a day around the local high school track because the doctor said that walking might help me go into labor (it didn't).  But right now, with a few days left until my due date, I don't even think I could walk a mile.  Maybe really slowly.  I am having some pelvic pain which is apparently due to your pelvic bones and area getting soft and ready to shift shape.  That's all well and good for giving birth, but not so much for moving around.  The website I was reading suggested that pelvic pain may be brought on by prolonged sitting, laying down, or walking.  Oh, okay.  Thanks.  I'll just avoid all those things.

But, I guess all in all I'm good.  Still at the park with Jack (when he was healthy), still sitting in music class and dancing around (though it's not pretty).  Hopefully this baby will come and introduce himself before too long!  :)

What Jack's been up to...

The kiddo is sick (again) so I am going to take this opportunity to post some more pictures.  The sickness has definitely slowed us down some and caused us to miss classes and play dates, but that's okay.  There are still some cute pics...

Week in Review - 12/22/12

Well, what a busy crazy week. I've spent most of my nights, after Jack's gone to bed, either online christmas shopping, or wrapping presents, or finishing crafts, or baking goodies for Jack's friends. Of course, this was made all the more difficult because Jack came down with a cold and cough. Though by yesterday when he wasn't sleeping at all during the night and only wanted to be held, I knew something was a little off with him...more than a cold. A quick trip to the doctor confirmed some severe bronchitis and I felt pretty bad that he had been suffering all week. Sigh. At least now we have antibiotics as well as this crazy breathing machine that we put more medicine in and he breathes in twice a day. Good times. At least through all these sick times we still got some good pictures. :)

Before he got really bad, we took a trip to the zoo with some of his friends and he ran around.

He continues to LOVE his little alarm clock that he plays with and counts up to 60. Probably his favorite "toy" in the house.

Of course his other favorite thing is obviously Pepe, Aunt Leslie's dog. He is gentle and tries to give him hugs and kisses.

We went to a store the other day and Jack insisted that the picture in the window was of Pepe. I tried to tell him otherwise but he wouldn't be swayed. The kid knows what he likes. And he likes Pepe.

Here are some more pics from the week!

Get well soon East Coast

While we are enjoying sunny weather, we are thinking of all our relatives on the east coast who are going through so much with no power and damage to their homes.  Perhaps in a move towards solidarity, our family decided to go down for the count this past weekend.  The stomach flu hit our house hard for the first time ever.  Friday Jack was acting so punky and grumpy and I couldn't figure out what was wrong.  He was cuddling up to me in the afternoon and having a bottle of milk.  He suddenly sat up, turned green, and proceeded to vomit all over me.  Then he puked some more.  And then some more.  Lots of vomit pooling on the couch and in my lap.  Poor poor kid.  He had never thrown up before so he seemed scared and upset about what was happening.  Between the tiny cries of "mommy" and the reaching for a hug, it broke my heart.  Well, it broke my heart while I was trying to hold back my gag reflex because of the smell.  The poor kid was sick all day Friday.  Friday night I went to bed feeling a bit nauseous and then around 1am it hit.  I was sick all night and then felt pretty bad all Saturday.  Thank goodness that my mom was here this weekend to help me out.  John was working on Saturday so I don't know what I would have done without her.  Jack enjoyed playing with grandma and the new books she brought him all day.  Then Sunday she headed home and we appeared to be healthy.  Of course later that afternoon, John started feeling nauseous, right about the time my mom called to tell me she was throwing up.  Good times!  Sigh.  I'm sure we will all be healthy soon.  In the mean time, I'll try to enjoy the cuddling.

A perfect time for a cold...

Well, the poor little guy is sick again.  I guess it was inevitable with all the play dates and hanging around with so many toddlers.  The thing is, in case you haven't heard, it's Halloween.  We have/had 4 parties on the books and costumes have been purchased.  Sigh.  Right now I'm just waiting to see just how sick he is exactly and we'll see what we can do.  He's clearly become an expert at taking his temperature though (ear thermometer).

Yesterday we had a lazy day inside, watching east coast storm coverage and reading books in bed.  Books always make him happy.  :-)

Sickness Interruption

Sorry for the utter lack of posting. We were busy and then Jack got sick (still is) and then he made his parents sick. I haven't been this sick since before Jack's pregnancy. Though now I can kind of understand why he's so cranky and yucky. So am I! Here we are laying on the couch because that's all I can muster. Enjoy until we are healthy enough to resume normal posting!

Pink Eye

On top of Jack's completely awful cold and wet cough, we've added pink eye.  He woke up yesterday with a swollen pink-colored eye so off to the doctor we went.  He's got his prescription eyedrops now but I'm not sure how to stop him from rubbing his snotty nose and then rubbing his eyes.  But we're muddling through.  Just want him to get healthy so we can resume our play dates and normal schedule.  And hopefully get his smiley happy demeanor back.  Because that kid in the photo above?  He's not that fun.

Sick...but staying afloat.

Sickness has struck the household again. Jack wasn't sick the first year of his life but now he's been sick twice in the past two months. And he's passed it along to his caring and loving mommy and daddy.  I know this isn't the worst thing in the world but he is just so damn miserable that it's hard to take care of him from 5:45am to 8pm by myself. And by "hard" I mean that I run out of patience after hours of alternating crying, whining, and throwing food. But we're hanging in there. It'll all be over soon.

On a positive note, here are some cute pics of Jack and his daddy enjoying some pool time this past weekend.

Week in Review

Well, I'm done counting weeks but I do have so many pictures from the past week or two that I have to post them. You can't miss out on the cuteness!

This week was actually pretty sad because he was so sick every day. We went to the doctor again but she confirmed that it was just a normal cold (not sinus infection or pneumonia). So here we are, waiting it out. It just doesn't seem to be going anywhere!

So to cheer him up this week, I introduced him to bubble baths. He loves bubbles so this went over really big.

He had bouts of grumpiness but could always be pulled out of it with some music. Check it out. He's totally mastered the piano and the triangle.

He didn't really enjoy being put down and left alone to play this week. There was a lot of time in my arms. So I took that opportunity to show him how to cook tomato sauce. I think he got it.

Yup, sickness is pretty bad. But the upside is that he seems to be into cuddling. Which is pretty darn adorable.

Okay, now more pics from the week!
